Job description

Do you want to build an innovative product that is in its crucial stage of developement that will be used by hundreds of thousands of users in the gift-card industry? Do you see yourself joining an early-stage, fast-growing startup as the first Engineer building a team around you? At our Haarlem based startup, we are looking for our 6th employee and second hire of the year, our first technical internal hire. Working with an experienced CEO that has founded and successfully sold two scaleups before and a Product Manager with 20 years of experience, you can look forward to collectively building a scalable, beautiful product. Your ideas, ways of working and technical capabilities will be a key factor in the success of digitalizing a plastic-based gift-card industry.


Stack: Python 3.6 is our backend language, Django REST is our framework, PostgreSQL 10.3 is our database, and our app is built in React Native. We use PyTest (integrated Selenium) for testing and integration. We also use WagtailCMS 2.6, some Docker, Sentry (for app monitoring). Some concurrency/websockets, some celery (Redis as Broker) (cron-like task handling). AWS is our cloud computing platform.


YOUR ROLE

Together with an outsourced engineering team at your disposal, the Product Manager and our CEO Nick, you’ll be collaborating on different meaningful projects to build a scalable, versatile platform. This will involve daily problem solving and constant innovation. You will be joining us as the first internal software engineer, we will, therefore, build the role around you and your skillset (e.g. you could already be a Lead Engineer, or you could be a Senior Engineer) either way your responsibilities will include:


  • Crafting scalable and reusable features aimed at giving the user an amazing journey
  • Building a very smooth experience for clients, with a beautiful frontend and a snappy backend
  • Improving our development process in general (testing, modularity, etc)
  • Working very closely with Gaston our Product Manager and our CEO, Nick.
  • Your hands-on approach to products ensures you 'make it happen' in the "Yesty Way" (a startup, but with added quality and experienced)
  • Becoming our key technical decision maker, the way you build the backend and frontend (with help from the team) will shape the destiny of our startup
  • The outsourced development company explained your responsibility by saying " The really nice technical challenge for this project is that the product will have to start meeting the requirements from different external companies & clients, making it elastic, making it scalable is essential"

Yesty is an autonomous expanding 2018 startup founded by Nick Stals, successful experienced entrepreneur and founder of GiftForYou (> 40 fte) & HotelSpecials (> 100 fte). Based in the picturesque Haarlem, we are on a journey to change the way people and companies are giving and using gift cards. You will be joining a company that is crafting technology to shake up this plastic-based industry: Together, we will make gift cards easier to use, more personalized, and more environmentally friendly. We already collaborate with most of the major retailers in The Netherlands (bol.com, Zalando, Hema) and thanks to us, companies like Essent and the University of Utrecht are already surprising their employees with digital gift cards with a personal note and a picture or video. We all know that a digital future is here, so we’re bringing the world of gift cards up to speed.

  • The development team is currently completely outsourced to a company in Amsterdam and Poland. You will be the first engineer, setting our engineering principles and eventually hopefully helping to build our technical team in-house.

Job requirements

ESSENTIAL YESTRIBUTES FOR A YESTY SENIOR FULL STACK DEVELOPER:

  • Recent experience working predominantly in the Backend using Python (If you have already had experience in building a product from scratch, that would be really, really useful but this isn’t essential).
  • Around 5-10 years of experience as Fullstack or Backend Developer
  • Prior experience in the frontend. If you are solely backend focussed you consider yourself to be product minded and interested in UI at least.
  • Knowledge in the tech stack that we use: Django, Python & AWS with the flexibility to use our technology and the maturity to suggest areas of improvements - you will be our technical decision maker.
  • You have the ability to self manage and deal with changing requirements and flows
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to building our innovative product and to successfully evolving into an amazing company together


NICE TO HAVE YESTRIBUTES

  • Dutch would also be super “lekker” but not essential and Polish would be “niesamowite” since you will be working with our Polish (off-site) team
  • We hope you are always aware of the latest tech and innovation (we are interested in voice and AI) we want to learn and build these features in-house, as we grow.
  • Your coding practices include using linter and TDD or BDD and CI/CD to create stable and sustainable code.
  • Experience with using Reactjs & React Native would be a big plus for supporting developers with the frontend
  • We are Data-driven over here and it would be great if were too
  • Experience in building a B2B platform from scratch, in a startup environment
